Arbitrum One is an Ethereum layer-2 network using ETH for gas and EVM accounts. It must be selected explicitly instead of Ethereum mainnet or Arbitrum Nova.

Network identity
Arbitrum One executes transactions in a rollup environment and posts data to Ethereum. The network has its own chain state, token contracts and transaction explorer despite its Ethereum compatibility.
Address rules
Addresses use the 0x format. The same wallet account can appear on several EVM networks, so the address alone cannot prove that a receiver supports Arbitrum One.
Fee mechanism
Gas is paid in ETH on Arbitrum One. Fees include layer-2 execution and an Ethereum data component. Token transfers therefore need a usable ETH balance on Arbitrum.
Settlement
Arbitrum transactions can receive layer-2 confirmations quickly, but provider policy controls exchange acceptance. Native bridge withdrawals and provider payouts have different workflows and timing.
Memo or tag
Normal Arbitrum EVM transfers do not use destination tags. If a custodial destination provides a special identifier, use only its current deposit instructions.
Tokens and representations
Tokens use Arbitrum-specific contracts. Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova and Ethereum versions can share a ticker while remaining separate deposit assets.

What usually goes wrong
Selecting Ethereum mainnet for an Arbitrum balance is the common category error. Another is choosing Arbitrum Nova because the wallet shortens both names to Arbitrum.

Follow both legs of the route
An ETH payout labelled Arbitrum One arrives as ETH on the layer-2 network. It will not appear in an Ethereum-mainnet balance until the wallet switches networks or the asset is moved through a supported route.
