Polygon PoS network guide for crypto exchanges
Polygon PoS is an EVM-compatible network using POL for gas following the network’s MATIC-to-POL migration. Wallets and providers can still display legacy naming, so the chain label matters.

POL and EVM tokens on Polygon PoS
Network identity
Polygon PoS maintains its own chain state and validator system while connecting to the Ethereum ecosystem. It is different from Ethereum mainnet, Polygon zkEVM and other Polygon networks.
Address rules
Polygon PoS uses 0x accounts. The same wallet key can derive the same string on Ethereum, but token balances and deposit detection remain network-specific.
Fee mechanism
Gas is paid with the Polygon PoS native asset, POL. Some wallets or legacy integrations can still refer to MATIC during migration, so use the current wallet and provider labels.
Settlement
Polygon blocks are fast, while exchange processing depends on detection and provider confirmation rules. Cross-chain bridge finality is a different workflow from a direct Polygon exchange route.
Memo or tag
Standard Polygon EVM transfers normally use an address without a memo. A custodial receiver’s specific deposit instructions take precedence.
Tokens and representations
Polygon tokens use network-specific contracts. USDT or USDC on Polygon is not interchangeable with its Ethereum, Solana or TRON version at the deposit step.
MOST COMMON ROUTE ERROR
What usually goes wrong
The 0x address and familiar token ticker can lead a user to choose Ethereum. Another source of confusion is treating Polygon PoS and Polygon zkEVM as one network.
CONCRETE EXCHANGE EXAMPLE
Follow both legs of the route
A USDC payout labelled Polygon PoS must go to a wallet that supports that USDC representation on Polygon. The wallet needs POL later to send the token.
BEFORE YOU SEND
Polygon checklist
- Confirm Polygon PoS rather than Ethereum or Polygon zkEVM.
- Keep POL available for gas.
- Match the token contract supported by the destination.
- Treat MATIC and POL labels carefully during legacy transitions.
POLYGON FAQ
Network-specific answers
What pays gas on Polygon PoS?
POL is the native gas asset, although some legacy wallet interfaces can still display MATIC naming.
Is Polygon PoS the same as Polygon zkEVM?
No. They are separate network routes and must be selected explicitly.
Can I send Polygon USDT to an Ethereum USDT address?
Not as a direct token transfer. Use an explicit network-change route supported by both sides.
